A Few Words
About Me
Barikisu Issaka
I am Barikisu Issaka, a PhD candidate (ABD) in Advertising and Public Relations at Michigan State University. My research focuses on the intersection of health and digital media, specifically examining the persuasive effects of digital media and technology on the health behaviors of minoritized, vulnerable, and marginalized populations.
As a researcher, I am dedicated to exploring cognitive and emotional responses to digital media messages, the persuasive effects of digital media on health behaviors, misinformation and e-health literacy, and the role of ICTs in health behavior. My dissertation, supported by a $15,000 grant from MSU, investigates ICTs and mental health in Muslim American contexts using a mixed-method approach.
In addition to my research, I have taught several advertising and public relations classes, including Media Planning and Buying, Principles of Advertising, Social Media Foundations, and Strategic Communication. I bring my experience as a content creator into the classroom, focusing on digital analytics and content strategy. I am passionate about mentoring students and helping them achieve their best potential by cultivating research skills and knowledge of digital environments.
